MS290 MM
« on: December 21, 2011, 12:23:43 am »
I have a question for all the Steel runners.I have it in my mind to purchase a new MS 290. It will have an 18BC of 3/8 pitch. Now I have had good success doing MM on all my saws but the MS 290 has the self adjusting carburetor or intellicarb or something of that nature. This is one feature that I am not familiar with. Will the carb adjust to a richer setting once the MM is completed? Also will this saw pull a 3/8 chain?I am getting a bit older and this chain is easier to sharpen in the field. Thanks Ken

The MS290's I have worked on all had adjustable H L and I carbs with (that snorkel looking thing that somehow they adjust for you running a dirty air filter).

I have seen 20% to high of 23% quicker 1 cut times just from a simple 30 min muffler mod on them.

The snorkel device between the carb and the air filter is a compensator that automatically adjusts the fuel mixture for a dirty air filter.

It works by biasing the fuel regulator diaphragm in the carb for any changes in carb inlet air pressure.

It will not compensate for a MM.

You will have to richen the mixture yourself for the MM.

I don't have a 290. I just have a 025 and a 026. They were both changed to have adjustable carbs. The original carbs on these were not adjustable on the high speed.

Like in 2nd post of thread, all the 290's I have seen are fully adjustable. H L and I
