I looked up Never Seeze and it's good to 1800 degrees .That thing won't get that hot .It's not that costly for a little can of it .

Problem is when the saws come in the first time for MM or work requiring muffler removed. Still dont help that I lost 1-2 almost every time.
Like I said only once did I get all 3 off without breaking, but it did take the end threads off of one.

Never seize will only help IF I ever would work on the saw down the road.

I hit them with Aero Kroil and wait a few minutes then put my little Makita cordless 1/4 inch impact on them.
Most of the time they come around without breaking.

I'm just using a 1/4" hand ratchet and they usually start and then get tight then snap.

I even goofed around with the threaded short broken piece and put a nut on it holding the broken part in the vise. The nut started to get hard to turn and then snapped off again. I thinking it's something to do with hardened but brittle bolts.   ??? ???

grrrrrrr MS290 less then year old shows up for the same treatment today.

How long is the warranty for stihl homeowners?  After talking it over with owner, waiting on muffler mod and carb work till out of warranty. Is it 1 year or 2?

It's most likely a higher alloy carbon steel which the higher the carbon the faster it rusts .In addition being under heating and cooling cycles it will do odd things to the metal .

Kroil is some good stuff but I've had to use heat to get some rusty stubborn nuts loose before .Depending on what it is if you can keep it hot enough to expand  the nut and get it off then power wire brush the bolt threads it will go back on ----usually . ;)

Problem is with a small nut like maybe 6 mm is not getting the bolt hot too at the same time .If they both swell up you're back to square one .

The last go around with a deal like that was the control rod of a Hi_Ranger bucket truck .The female part was brass .I used a B-bottle on that one because oxy-actylene would or could have melted the brass .

I might add while they are indeed consumer saws I don't really care for that series of Stihls . They certainly aren't up to par in my opinion considering a good reputation the traditional more robust professional grade saws are .Then again Mac had the mini Mac and Homelite the XL-2 so they all had a few not so good of saws I guess.

Only in time will tell. But I really like the looks and quality of the AFM bolts and nuts (over the pos OEM ones) that came in today. 310 is all done.  ;D

Northwood saw hooked me up quickly.   Thanks.  http://www.northwoodsaw.com/store/

I have found that when you start to remove the nuts, if they start to get tight on the threads and rust go back the other way. Like you are tightening them. With a little kroil or blaster for some lube. And just keep working them back and forth. It takes some time but worth it.
