Hey Mike ,

Looks like a big 362 in the air filter ,so should not be a shop vac and fill the filter  with dust by the top cover type ,so filter maintenance should be a plus over the 1128 series saws ,i had a bad feeling they would use springs in the 462 like the 661 did ,would be cool to see a **** image to see port layout with that laid back jug .

"Of course a 462 was expected pretty soon, . . .  the 461  . . . looked more like a "stop-gap" model"

A STIHL rep told me that they only changed 8 parts between the MS460 and 461.  He said that they wanted to keep the loyal customers happy, while meeting some requirements.  This saw looks like a total re-design.

I really like the looks of this saw.   I know some think the clutch cover is weird looking but I think it is kind of cool looking.
The whole saw has this look of speed about it.   I am not a big Stihl fan but this one got my attention.   I do not care for captive bar nuts but I do like twist locks for the covers if they stay tight over time.   Nice air cleaner setup.

You're  welcome.
I think we're long over due for someone  to post some pics of the new 572XP or whatever  it's going to be called.
They have to be near completion of field testing  it.
It looks like what the industry big 2 are leaning towards. .....with the extreme  laid back cylinder design.

What is the reason they lay the cylinders back? Is it mainly because they are strato port

I can't  answer about the strato,  but I can say Stihl had a laid back cylinder for decades. Husqvarna always had a verticle design up until the 550/562 etc was introduced  with their own laid back cylinder which is more extreme  then Stihls.
Design allows  a larger muffler without sacrificing  a longer bar pad mount as the norm is an extra 2 DL chain with Husqvarna verticle cylinder saws.
Lower center of gravity for balance ,ergonomics  with lower top handle position.

Anything new on the 462?

How does the laid back cylinder work with a front muffler - some of the older ones had the mufflers on the side, at the rear?
