Hello folks, I'm a newbie here, be gentle.
I just bought a used MS 362 from a pro arborist, said he used it one year. Paid $400, he says it "rips", seemed very honest. However, when I ran it(in front of him) and pulled the gas trigger(quickly) it bogged, totally died twice. I let it warm up(30°F outside today in Minnesota) and it still bogged a bit even when completely warm, but it did accelerate in less than a couple seconds to full speed. Plug looks great, light tan, not wet. The air filter was pretty dirty but I removed the top cover and removed it also, same result. I pulled the cold weather window off and set it aside and same result. He claims it has a been a few months since he used it, August, but it has always run great. I could not get an understanding from him exactly if what I demonstrated ever happened to him. . . I bought it anyway, for $50 less than we discussed; with the idea, it's probably OK, just needs some minor work.
Am I right? I WANT to be right! ha!
Here are my first thoughts, let me know what I missed and re-order my priorities please. . . in order:
clean air filter is a no brainer, new plug cause their cheap, then:
1) dump the gas, premium fuel(what he says he always uses) and try again.
2)if no joy on 1) pull the carb and soak in carb cleaning solvent, does not make sense to rebuild if only one year old.
3) start worrying . . .
One more thing: When I ran it up to speed I didn't see much oil at ALL flinging off into the snow bank until it got warmer. Any reliable ways to check oil lube function?
Thanks!
