Quick question about starter switch
« on: January 26, 2015, 12:12:21 pm »
Hey

I took my stihl chainsaw (model 031 av) apart and not sure if i broke the starter switch wire or if it just plugs back in.  I dont want to put it all back together until I find out if I need another switch or not.  Pretty new at this.

Thanks

First of all the starter switch when it makes the wires connect - shorts out the magneto and the spark and the engine will not run.

If the wire(s) are hanging out in the open, the saw will start but you cannot shut it off.

It is likely the wires just plug back in?

Take a wrench and loosen the nut on the switch and pull it right off, that brass tit should plug right back in, and move the rubber cup over to insulate.  Tighten the switch back home tight when the saw is back together, you may need to take the nut off to reassemble.
