Hey man site looks great, apologies for taking so long to register just got back on arborist and remembered you starting this one.

Anyway I have a 400 and putting it in the wood for the first time tomorrow.
I have already ordered the following parts without even using it because the new clutch cover set up sucks arse.
Extended clutch cover 441 model
Brake release spring cover 362 model
661 Bumper sipkes with the sligh mod to the bottom for the curve housing.

I just use the website to store info from the chainsaw repair group FB I created.
Everything went social media and forums are just dead anymore IMO.

I wonder if any truth to this? So cool if no smearing. Copy paste =

(((((The Mag piston isn’t for weight reduction as much as it’s for warranty issues. That info is coming form a licensed Stihl dealer and tech who attended the dealership meetings at Stihl USA.

It seems that Mag won’t stick to Nikasil like aluminum will. So any overheating/straight gas/other user issues result in a scored piston with no meaningful cylinder damage at all. Another piston can be popped in and the saw can be run again.

Again, that’s info I got from a very reputable source.)))))

I find it hard to believe since the MS400 was just released for sale here not long ago .
But rumor is the Stihl 400i version suppose to be out there getting tested.  Suppose to be some in US too.

IMO they are trying to go the route cars did. To slow up the shade tree mechanics from working on everything so you have to pay the big bucks to get looked at.

Pic just for attention.

STIHL manufactures handheld outdoor power equipment. Its equipment is tested extensively, including the testing of prototypes before series production models are built and released to the public. Such prototypes are not approved for general public use or sale. Equipment and prototypes are collectively referred to in this agreement as “UNITS.” The under-signed has agreed to test UNITS provided by STIHL, personally or by his employees (collectively “USER”). In consideration for USER’S opportunity to test the UNITS free of charge, USER agrees to the following:

1 USER will perform testing without any charge or fees to STIHL.

2 The UNITS will remain the sole property of STIHL, and are provided on loan to USER. USER will not share UNITS with any third party without the prior agreement of STIHL. Any approved third party will be required to sign an agreement similar to this one.

3 The fact that USER is testing UNITS, as well as the technical details and appearance of the UNITS, must be kept confidential –even after the end of this agreement. Additionally:

o USER must securely use and store UNITS to protect against loss, destruction or damage, especially by third parties. This includes storing and locking the UNITS when not in use.

o USER must NOT publicly exhibit UNITS or use them at public events.

o USER must not make or allow others to make photographs, videos or other forms of media unless specifically requested by STIHL.

o USER must NOT open, dismantle or repair UNITS unless agreed upon or authorized by STIHL.

o USER will not intentionally or negligently damage any UNITS.

4 USER will only use the UNITS as instructed by STIHL and STIHL field testing personnel. STIHL will provide instruction manuals for series models, and instruction manuals for similar products in the event a prototype is being tested. For any additional features on a prototype, STIHL will give more specific instructions.

5 After completing the testing, USER must return all UNITS, along with any provided documentation as may be specified by STIHL.

6 USER will be liable for breaching any of its agreements in this document.
I agree to the above Terms and Conditions.

Guess I havent been keeping the info updated here.  Seems there is lot of issues.

Older info on CRG FB.

Newest today.

5 saws 2 months to under a year of use.

RLee
The ring stop on intake side of piston is centered with intake port on the jug. Top ring breaks right at the stop. After some wear on cylinder wall and the rings it’s letting that ring come out far enough that it catches on the intake port and snaps it. I’ve got 5 engines in my shop from rebuilds that all look identical.
