Chainsaw Repair

Hello everyone,

 New member,Sam in Indiana-I'd like to share the details of my recent repair of my 180C side cover.I 'm sure that others have had a similar situation ,and this is an alternative to buying an expensive replacement part.

 The sequence of pictures show the initial damage(sheared locating post),and the  components (4mmX.7MM socket head screw &Delrin plastic post) used for the repair. Obviously,this particular repair was made very easy because of the existing cavity cast into the case with an i.d. smaller than the screw selected,therefore allowing me to actually thread the screw into the cavity for strength and proper alignment of the post.
The post was fabricated from the Delrin material-almost any material that is machinable would suffice-the post's center hole i.d. should be no greater than the screw's o.d.;ideally,a few thousands less is ideal.
 Of course,there are variations of this repair that will be successful,depending upon the type of damage, equipment available,and ability. I'm fortunate because my background is R&D Pharma equipment fabrication(RETIRED!) and I have my own modern machine & sheet metal shop.
The final picture shows the completed repair.After final assembly,I roughened the area with a ball burr(Dremel) and applied a light coat of  JB QuickSet epoxy- the screw inside the Delrin post is taking the stress,so the JB is largely unnecessary.
