old 034 Muffler
« on: January 20, 2013, 12:23:18 am »
I'm building a saw from a box of mix matched saws, the crank case is from an old 034,the cylinder is a New Meteor Kit for an 036
The problem is that the muffler won't fit properly without installing spacers on the lower crank case muffler mounts, Does anyone know the part Number for the  Muffler I Need.? The 034 crank case is the old style that takes the two piece clutch cover.

Thanks for the IPL, I guess clutch cover was wrong, it has the two piece plastic chain brake cover, it does't have a screw hole to hold the chain tensioner plate? thanks again

I took one of those older 034 with 036 tops. Thing kept throwing me loops when I would buy 034 036 parts and they didnt  work on it.  ???  Then finally Cale pointed out it was a early 034.

I'll find thread.  Al Smith put the saw together with 036 top so I dont know what he done for muffler. I imagine he had the o34 muffler from removing the bad top.

Here is the one on the 1 piece I ordered and takes 2 piece cover.  http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/stihl/stihl-034/msg5124/#msg5124

I really have no idea how old it was .The cover was smashed and I beat it out as best I could .I might have used washers to space it out but quite frankly I have forgotten what I did to it .

It was one of those deals of assembling a saw from a pile of parts .I do remember it had the small splined clutch drum which I'm not really certain an 034 came with one .The damned top cover never did fit right .

Well it gets to be a challange because often although it might be the same model they list different parts then you have to figure out what you need .I know on just the 038 alone there are at least 3 air box covers that I know of .

I ordered an 034 Muffler to try, The muffler i tried was from an 034 super, It will work with spacers if i can't find one? Thanks for the help,  definitely  gets interesting swapping all these parts, I guess this is how you end up with drawers full of extra parts, my problem is, when i start Accumulating all the extra parts i decide to build a new saw. I keep telling myself i'm gonna take all my spare parts and sell them on eBay, But there hard to let go.

After a while when looking for parts it's not a question of if but rather where you put them .

the "regular" 034 muffler is the one you need to use spacers on. pretty sure it's the same thing with the any other muffler you use aswell.
you'll also need to cut the reinforcment rib off at the front of the top cover.
just use the muffler you have and throw some spacers in and run it. how many times are you going to have the muffler off to worry about the spacers?

this shows you where you need to make the cut.
