is it at all possible the extra displacement comes from the crank? the crankshafts in each of the cases are definately different.
THAT IS THE CASE INDEED ;D

Yah , then you need the 026 crank indeed

But still ( PUT THE PISTON AND CYLINDER WITHOUT THE RINGS LOSE TOGETHER AND SEE IF IT TURNS ALL THE WAY  )

and if it turns all the way, then put two bolts to hold it in place and put a piece of solder rod in the spark-plug hole,

turn the engine (with the hand or tool)  through the compression and measure it, then you now what feet-gasket you need

Cheers Saul

It all sounds good providing you have about a pick up truck full of parts to tinker with .If not you'll have 3 times the amount of money in rounding up the parts than you could have  landed an 026 for  .

Kind of like a few who have grafted an 038 mag cylinder to an 038 av .It works but with the amount of work in redrilling the cylinder to fit the crankcase etc it might have been a better choice just to find a mag to begin with .Quit frankly truth be known they probabley made more mags than they did av's so they aren't that hard to find .Might also be true concerning the 024 and 026 because you see more of the later than the former .
