Stihl 024
« on: August 18, 2011, 11:35:33 am »
Looking for info on a stihl 024. Are the 024AV lighter then the 026?  Just smaller bore then 026 the only difference?

Not talking about the stihl 024 super. Metal tag has stihl 024 AV.

What is the going rate for a good used one?  IYO

Dug some info up. Guess it isnt lighter.  :'(

024 AV  1982 - 1992        4.7 kg

026     1988 - ?       4.7 kg

Is Acres site wrong saying 024 YEAR INTRODUCED: 1993?  That conflicts with info above I just found.

The 024 had shorter stroke that the 026. Found that out of the hard way when I put a 026 top end
on a 024 bottom end on accident.

In good shape around the 200$ mark. Crank, air filter, P&C, air filter cover were the primary differences.

It came out in the mid 80's and was sold on for a few years until the 026 came and replaced it.
I know the 026 was out prior to 1991, only reason I know this is there was  massive ice storm
in March 1991, and dealers sold truck loads of 026's that I still service.

Great info, Thanks for sharing it. PM coming your way.

I also just dug this up.

Stihl 024 chain saws were the smallest of Stihl’s semi-professional saws produced from 1982 from 1994.  The came in three different variations over those years, but 3 of those variations came in different engine sizes.  Some of the exact specifications are unknown throughout the numerous variations.

Model         Stroke    Bore    BHP
Stihl 024 AVE    1.18    1.65    2.61
Stihl 024 AVS    1.26    1.65    -
Stihl 024 AVZ    1.26    1.73    2.9

The Stihl 024 was celebrated as a great light-weight saw was respectable performance for its day.  The saw is great for cutting smaller wood with bar lengths from 16-20″.   This saw eventually turned into Stihl’s newest model the MS 240 with 41.6 cc and 2.9 hp.

Both Tilloston and Walbro carburetors have been used on 024s.  The general factory settings are 1 turn out for the H & L screws.

024S: 42mm bore, 32mm stroke, 44.3 cc

026: 44mm bore, 32mm stroke, 48.7 cc

Just a little comment on the 024 model .I have one I got from a dealers dead pile that really wasn't dead .Had a little scuff on the exhaust side of the piston but other than that ,no damage .I gutted the muffler and rebuild the carb, ran great .Couldn't get it to cut right, new chain but the wrong chain.Used a .325 by 50 thou,Should have been .063,Stihl bar, didn't pay attention duh .That fixed it.Neat little saw for a little dude .Goes forever on a tank of gas .
