Kevin the two most common filters are the 1121 120 1612 for the non compensating carbs, this is the fleece filter with a single hole, and the 1121 120 1618 is the fleece filter for the newer 026's and 260's it has the extra hole for compensating feature on the carb.

You would want a new cylinder and piston if you were going to build a 3ci gtg saw or racesaw IMHO. The exhaust is just a tad to high on this one.
Well ,chit happens ,it wouldn't be the first time .Fast as lightning ,no azz .

I suppose if there's enough meat left a person could face  cut the head deck but that's getting a little off the beaten path of the topic .Besides the fact it would be a giant pain in the buttocks to do .

026 muffler mod made simple.  I think there are at least 3 different covers and 2 different backs on the 026.

Why pay someone $100 for a modified 026 cover when you can drill or dremel your own covers for nothing.

Let you saw breath and adjust your carbs afterwords.

Here is the basic 026 cover.  Drill a hole above and below existing hole and open the outer exhaust deflector. or use a dremel as I did on this one.  If you have a cage inside your rear muffler, drill holes in it or remove it to.  All very simple and no cost. Less then 15-20 mins from start to finish.

What is the thickness of a stock stihl oem cylinder gasket?

What would one expect to pay at a dealer that is full retail and new. I dont know this 4th new JD stihl dealer, but they are the closest and I dont want to drive hour and half to my best stihl dealer.

I think there are a lot of Stihls that have the two gasket sizes. Where are you getting your pricing ?? PM me if need be.

That is correct. If you need crank seals or such, consider buying a complete gasket set. The cost of two seals will buy the whole set of gaskets.

I pm'ed you how I was getting the pricing after hours. I just called the new close dealer JD and stihl now. Not going to place a order till later in the week and then a couple days. He said cost would be $2 plus shipping for the .5mm 11180292306.
I just ordered it online for $4.25 and shipping instead. Same wait or shorter I figure and wont cost me 10 bucks in gas or more to go pick it up.  I tried.

If I wanted to travel hour and half and 2 hrs round trips I know the other 2 dealers would have in stock. But it's not worth it to me.

I took a 026 topend in trade Art and it has the same troubles your 158 has without gasket.

Setting here waiting on a gasket because it wont turn over  without a gasket and it needs .5mm oem thickness to clear.  Somebody had put a lump in the middle of the piston and cut the cylinder so it could run a oem .5 gasket.   8)
