Stihl 034 ??
« on: November 23, 2011, 04:41:03 pm »
OK someone that knows the 034 tell me what is going on with this 034. I ordered the crankcase dust cover and inner metal bar plate for this 034.
The 034 crank case only has 2 holes to mount and dosent even allow a 034 dust cover to be mounted on this one. Was there a very early 034 that was different?
Also bar plate with screw fits but this 034 has no hole for the screw to hold on the bar plate. I'm cornfused. Help............ ???

Here is a pic of a 034 I did today to bypass stihl molded fuel line and fuel filters.  Here is how easy. Just pull old line out, clip both ends off by molded tank area, run new line through molded part that seals tank area. Install new filter, attach to carb and fixed for less then a dollar of fuel line and now you can use husky, poulan or any normal fuel filter IMO.

I think some 034 saws had a front chain tensioner.

insert quote is slick. Yippieeeeeeeeeeeee LOL

I was tired of being held hostage by stihl molded fuel lines when doing a MS250 with a friend one day  and having a few beers.

Hostage meaning ordering online and waiting or dealer and a long drive and lots of gas used.  So this is my quick fix to fix and send them on back out in 30mins or less.

I've used Targon in place of the OEM lines .In fact I think that 034/036 had a line from an 029 .

I wish you could still find those nice limber lines made of buna-n or neoprene they used to make .If they still are made I have no idea where to find it .

That is the saw this line just replaced. The black stihl line **** and wouldnt allow saw to take throttle or idle long with hard to start. The typical stihl **** fuel line seeping symptom I am seeing.

I found aftermarket black fuel line at 2 places in bulk online. Now if it like you tell of I dont know.

Some Stihls have snap on bar plates. In most cases you will see both types of plates on the parts list.

I don't have a saw your size but on the bigger saws I have swapped the different types back and forth.

The snap on bar plate fits around the studs like a tinnerman nut.

The main thing I liked about the synthetic rubber is the fact it's so limber .I've used oil proof lines I got that were discarded from machine gauging at work plus the targon but have found after a period of time they both stiffen a tad bit .

I guess though plastic is limber enough it just won't allow enough flex to get all the fuel out of the tank which really isn't a bad thing .Sometimes you just have to get creative ,all others go to a dealer . ;)

Can't really help you with the bar plate but I know the early 034 cases were smaller bearing kinda like the old 10mm 044's. The later 034 and 036/360 are the more common, a little bit more robust design.
