.001" too close on your points is not going to make that much difference in timing.

The problems you describe in your first post relate to the needle of the metering valve in the carb is open all the time and letting fuel enter the engine almost continuously.

The carb should be a HS138A or maybe a B

You might check and see what the dealer wants for a new carb?

This is a bigger carb and a different brand than what I've recently bought but I have bought two carbs from Stihl recently in the low $20's.

The carbs ran perfectly on the saws with no adjustments out of the box.

I bought a Tillotson recently from the Dolmar dealer and it was on the expensive side.

Well here's a update on My stihl 041 farmboss. I got to working on it again and i think i figured out what i done wrong when i was setting the points. well i went out to my shop to reset them and make sure they was right on .016 and they was on .015 well i made sure they set right on .016 and then i found out what i have done when i cleaned them. i wasn't looking pastt he points to the base and i didn't know that base moves when you loosin the screw.well to make a long story short i made sure i put the screw dead center on the base of the points and then went in out there and gave it a good crank and SHE FIRE RIGHT OFF and ran good. i then retuned it and now it will hit the first pull of the rope. but now i have to find me a new clutch and air filter for it and she will be cutting wood once again.

So thanks everyone for trying to help me i sure do appericate it.if it quits raining i'll get a video of it running again.

Yes it's good to get it running again like it should. but only thing i have to find now is the probly a whole new clutch system and a air filter and a flywheel fan. i already got the the flywheel i just need the the fan that 3 screws holds it on. i been searching e-bay but no luck on that and i searched a few other places and no luck there.i even checked with my dealer and he said that i was out of luck on them.but i might get lucky and find one someplace.but with all that it runs like a new one again.
