Stihl 044 PHO weight?
« on: June 23, 2012, 04:26:45 pm »
Since being impressed with the 036 pro. I am thinking about checking out a 044.

Is the 044 PHO weight really 13lbs even like it says in the owners manual on page 50?  http://www.stihlusa.com/stihl_ownersmanuals/044_manual.pdf

I know about the 10mm and 12mm thing.

But what is this 044 crankshaft death that Mitch talks about in one of his post I read a long time ago? They have problems like I have seen in the 365 372 huskys?

I think they do come in under 14 lbs. I can weigh the one I have with the small clutch cover and one spike when I get it drained for shipping. It seems they eat the crank bearings when used with longer bars for extended use.

The crank bearing issues has to do to running long  bars on the saw. The saw is best suited to 28" or less bar. As to pho weight they run around 14 pounds. If need a bigger saw go 046 or Ms 460,better bearings and clutch set up.

Kevin it weighed 14.0 lb with my scales. They are usually pretty close to what everyone else's are.

No problem. I needed to drain it any way. I listed it on ebay a few days ago.

I weighed a new Husky 365 Special back a couple months ago which should weigh the same as a 372 and I'm thinking it was 14.8 with the chain cover and the inside spike.

So the 044 weight is good for 71cc

There is a noticeable difference in the 044 and xpw. I think the xpw dry is around 15 lbs.
