I'm thinking the owner wasn't holding down the throttle safety interlock down before pushing down on the master control switch and bent the switch button metal rod.
Pull the rear handle black cover off and make sure the fast idle and safety interlock is working smoothly,  might need a good cleaning too.

My 1992 066 Mag Arctic with standard half wrap handle came from the factory with a wide west coast cover.

I pulled it down. Just alot alot of slop in the whole system. I messed with the on/off spring some and then had a bright idea to take up the slop where the plastic meets the choke lever. Now it will close up when everything is off. It wouldnt before. Now I see this cobbled up 066 660 has a metal rear base with a intelli carb. Also where the choke comes up and meets the metal base it was hitting too. So with metal base on I can watch it open choke as I tighten the nuts to carb.

Will close all the way now. with metal base off

But this metal base when put back on you can watch it open choke up where it hits inside. Intelli carb with this base. hmmmm

Yep part of the problem is you got a non intelli carb HD filter base from a 1980's 064.
The thin baffle plate that goes under the 2 carb nuts is missing too.

Thats the help I am needing.

what air filter base this saw should have with this carb set up? I looked at the IPL and ones for sale and it starts to get confusing.

Talk to me Willard. You know this saws way better then I ever will.

So glad my 4 wasnt cobbled like  this one.

I just put the carb nuts on carb to start it without the base.  They were on outside of base.

I converted both my 066's to non intelli carb, one 1992 other decomp 1997. I had lots of older 064 parts and HD non intelli filter setup like yours.
You'll need to put a older 064 WJ carb top cover on that Intelli WJ.
Or else cut a slot in the base to make it line up.
Here's my 066 conversions , I like the non intelli, used it lots in the 1980's and worked good for me. I thought the intelli was kind of goofy when it came out.

I came up with a idea and ran it by owner. When you said something about shim between carb. I tried something and it worked to give just that hair of space needed to let choke close right with base on now.
Still need to come up with permanent redneck fix now.

Owner said it was a meteor topend on it.  Checked my new psi small engine gauge out with my old one. Pulls great psi and same on both which is good to know.

This 660 still has the original china made bosch in it too. Owner said never been changed and bought after 2008 time frame. Plug still looked like new to me so back in it goes. Even though I had German, Brazil made bosch on hand and Japan made NGK's. I dont replace plugs if their still doing what they suppose to.

Issue was jelled old mix. Showed him and put e-free mix of mine in.

Something I like to do on the 66 saws in past. Instead of removing inner cage now. I just started drilling them open in the front with 6 1/4” hole. 2 side by side 3 high. Forgot dang pic of that for new guys.

Been running the VPracing oil 40:1 and little fat aka rich. Guessing close to 12k.

Always liked to run the dual port covers in past. So got this $23 dp cover from SawSalvage.co.
Imo cover it came was good to go with its little front opening. But I just couldn’t leave well enough alone.
I just like all the dp covers for all these type saws myself.

I just could not see any reason to spend $75 for a homemade bark box these west coast guys are selling. The DP cover does all I need for $23. Pic of the barkbox cover added.
