Carrying Case Repair Help
« on: March 06, 2017, 09:55:25 pm »
I have an old 026 and carrying case I got with it.  The problem is the plastic case (and you probably already know what the problem is). The plastic case hinge has c racked/split so now I have two completely seperate pieces; the top and bottom   :( .  Has anyone had any luck coming up with a hinge system so the case is useable again?

I have yet to see a fix on one by the owners.  I have never tried as I have never been ask.

Post a pic I am sure someone can come up with something.  I used a plastic rednecked hinge I put together to save a cooler lid. Still have cooler.

I looked at the one with a saw that came in. IMO easy redneck fix for this problem.

I have had a few come thru the shop with piano style hinge cut 1" short of ends to protect your hands and leg.
Install with self tapping screws using all the holes - so small load per screw and lightly epoxy to case before tighten
screws - Have seen some for 10 yrs or more still working fine.

backed over mine with the pickup lol like yours the hinge got hammered went to the hardware store and picked up a hinge about 2in x2in used some screws and nuts to attach it to the case, drilled holes for the hinge screws and cut away some of the case with a makita 4 in grinder with a thin blade, it's been holding up well so far

I scored one with broken hinges I used common butt hinges drilled but I used pop rivets through the hinge with small flat washers on the inside was still holding up when I got rid of it
