Stihl 200T and 192T
« on: April 13, 2017, 10:38:46 am »
I rebuild a lot of 200T and a few 192T.
The only part I mount with a torque wrench is the Flywheel. I know that most people just tighten the nut down by guess, as they do everything else.  Not tight enough--comes off. Too tight and crank threads are snapped off. Why take a chance?
Been a while since I worked on a 192 and I noticed the Factory service manual states the flywheel nut should be torqued down @ 18NM.
The Stihl 200T is specified to be torqued @ 25NM.
There is not a great difference but the nuts and the flywheels are the same size?
Not a big deal but, Why the difference?

I cannot answer that.  I use a Impact drive when putting the fly wheel nut on.

I have nothing on this either.  But read a good post by Andy Lakeside years ago on the stihl 192.  C+P below

General information they put out for many saws warning of using the correct torque and to first degrease the stub? The flywheel keys in the 192 and many of the newer saws including the 361 has almost zero shear strength (just a tiny tab of cast aluminum for positioning only). Any excess torque applied to the crankshaft can spin the flywheel and shear the key, but it has to be excessive.
This can come for two sources: the factory / repair shops (or end user repairs) or some mechanical shock like the jambing of a chain at full power (the flywheel tries to continue turning). The later is unlikely to have any effect unless the flywheel was installed incorrectly to begin with.

One of the problems was that some of the clutches were assembled incorrectly, and it's my opinion (just an educated guess) that subsequent flywheel issues are often caused by the removal of the clutch without the use of a piston stops (I'm also guilty... but haven't stripped out a flywheel key 'cos I use the small impact tool ), or the reassembly without degreasing of the stub and flywheel.
