Great thread. Kevin, that shot of a 034/036...do you know whether that was from a current production run or an older?

The MS360 came out in 2001 and has not been made since March of 2004 and was replaced by the 361 until 2010

The 036 came out in 1993 until March of 2001

The 034 came out in 1984 and the Super in 1993

There was eventually a MS340 at one time and I'm assuming from April 2001 until March of 2004?

The MS362 came out in March of 2010

I should have written that thread better. I was referring to the shot Kevin showed of Mako aftermarket cylinder and piston.

I've got the old 036 Pro, arguably the best all around firewood saw they ever made. Got my eye on a 034 Super/036 too that I found local.

Will to much ignition timing give you a rough idle. Meaning kind of all over the place. The saw sounds good and runs good just thinking I got the timing a little to advanced.

Too much advance seems to have a couple symptoms . . .

One is that the saw will backfire and snatch the pull handle through your fingers.

The other thing they will do is make a popping sound when lightly loaded & free running and tend to be almost four cycling.

In this case I'm used to a chainsaw engine powering a model airplane.

You take off and get up to altitude, level off and throttle back to half throttle.

The engine is not pulling hard and will tend to go into four cycling because it is lightly loaded.

The engine will start making a popping sound if you have the timing up around 35 degrees before top dead center.
