I just purchased a 49mm complete engine from Hutzl.  Purpose is to make a MS290 worth it's keep.

Any 'gotchas' or pitfalls to my plan?

Bolt holes are not always the right size or threads in the past.

China air filter covers are a poor fit.

I've since discovered the two styles of cover.  Lever and round knob.

Possibly early and late production??   Flat with round knob and humped with lever.

only 2 styles are humped and flat on the Stihls, I won't speculate on the Chinese junk.

Working on a 390 the cast in key is sheared. What do you guys think line it back up and seat the taper well and torque it down a little tighter then the torque spec in the sm or hunt down a used one to put on there?

Me with cast in keys that are gone broken  or ground off. I just line up tighten. I never torqued them with a torque wrench before.

Making sure both mating surfaces are clean clean clean.
