well the caps filling the hole aren't a worry, the plastic piece between the carb and the cover is missing. will have to look and see if we can find it. we tuned on it the other day and we had some popping out the exhaust on the top end while cutting. we give it some fuel and it quit. he was telling me its not an 026 now. he put a new long block in it and said its bigger now. any ideas?

The very last 026's had the bigger bore of of the 260's

Popping at high speed while cutting could be sharp pieces in the combustion chamber

or

Ignition problems like spark plug, ignition wire, coil, or coil spacing?

epa bigger cylinder IMO for 260 had 44.7mm bore might be what he means and the 026 was 44mm  not going to notice the difference IMO.

026 / Pro     1121    2.96    48.7                      2,800    14,000

my boy said the engine came from a fella on ebay and that when he received the engine it was wrapped in stihl marked paper. as for sharp pieces in combustion chamber are you talking about hot spots?
