Stihl FS250 Carburetor
« on: April 24, 2013, 10:50:35 am »
SIL bought a new FS250 2 years ago.  Carb is a Zama C1Q-S162.  Looked up kit it's a RB-172.  Local dealer didn't have one.  Sent me an RB-89 kit.  According to the Zama book the metering diaphgram is different in the 89 kit.  Went online to find one much to my suprise the kit is not available from Zama according to this web site.   http://www.rcpw.com/zama-parts/genuine/browse-RB-to-ZTK-101-page-5.html  You got to be kidding a 2 year old machine and you have to buy a new carb because Zama discontinues the kit.  Needless to say SIL is highly PO'd.  Sending Stihl USA a very nasty e-mail.

Talking with a stihl dealer that does alot of OPE carbs. He said it got cheaper for them to replace the carbs then do kits and rebuilds anymore. Carbs were running 20-25.

This is an FS 250 brush trimmer not an MS250 chainsaw.  I usually go with the Wt-215 on all the MS210-250.

Called Stihl dealer he did some checking that carb kit is now a Stihl only item.  Means it will be triple in price.

Too bad.

Yes, I think I had bought the WT-215 for my saw.

About the same time I bought a carb for a 55R whacker. It was around $26

People keep saying that Stihl Owns Zama?

Zama is the biggest pain in the butt type carb to get parts for .If every number or letter does not match it will not work .It comes as no surprise if in fact Stihl owns them because they seem to have the same policy of making one of a kind OEM only stuff .

I got a new OEM Zama carb for my FS200 on eBay last year for something like $20 shipped.  Stihl used non-adjustable, fixed H-side (with adjustable L-side), and fully adjustable carbs on the machines in this series.

My machine happened to have the non-adjustable carb.  No thanks.  Bought a fully adjustable carb for it.  The OEM Zamas can be had for about the same cost of the knockoff carbs if you search enough...
