Stihl MS 170 - lubricating chain
« on: May 23, 2014, 12:56:59 pm »
I recently purchased a Stihl MS 170 used and it didn't come with any instructions.  I can't figure out how to lubricate the chain.  Is there a separate compartment in which to pour lubrication or do I add it to the chain each time I use it?  Or, is the oil in the oil compartment the only place in which to add oil for these chainsaws?

I'm sure it's obvious, I'm no lumberjack.  In fact, I never used on at all til I moved from Florida to Pennsylvania a few years ago.

THanks for any help.

Joe

Here is the 170 180 owners manual.  124 pages long.  Yes there is a area for bar oil to be put in and then one for the gas mixed with 2 stroke oil too. Mix gas and 2 stroke mix before putting in gas tank.

Thanks very much Cut4fun. I see the oil compartment.  But is that the oil that is for cooling off the motor as well as lubricating the chain?

Front oil is for bar chain.  Not motor.
