Looking good. Got the offending plug out. What is preferred lubricant for assembling rubber AV mounts? Mk 1 human spit??

None, or spit.  Lube would make it pop out again easier.  If any of them looks damaged, let me know, I should
have something laying around.  Also look and make sure that the white plastic holding it isn't ****.

Hi Fish,
thanks for the offer of bits, but I'm a bit far away, England!
solved the problem of putting the handle back with a little clamp; popped back sweet as anything with constant pressure from the clamp.
thanks for your help.
Peter

I know this is way old, but I just joined for this very info. Tnx for the help, although I'm still struggling with these little buggers. I think Stihl designed these cheaper homeowner models as "disposable", not meant to be worked on. I'm gonna bring it in the house to warm up a bit then try again later. I'm really trying to get at the oil pump but need to move the handle out of the4 way first - what a pain in the arse!

Welcome to the site.  Bringing saws inside is what I used to do too.

I dont  anything on the 180 to help, good luck.

Maybe something in video.

A common fault with the Stihl 017 and 018 is low or no oil getting through to the bar and chain. It is not always the pump but a series of other factors. The video takes you through the options.

Stihl 017 018 repair to bar oiling system, showing oil pump feed and oil tank removal.

Once you've worked on a couple of the small Stihls they are not so bad.

Hi raventree,as you see I really struggled with the first one I did. I rebuilt a similar last summer and it just went back together, no fighting, no clamps, no nothing! Maybe I just sweet talked it, or maybe I was just lucky!
