I know this is way old, but I just joined for this very info. Tnx for the help, although I'm still struggling with these little buggers. I think Stihl designed these cheaper homeowner models as "disposable", not meant to be worked on. I'm gonna bring it in the house to warm up a bit then try again later. I'm really trying to get at the oil pump but need to move the handle out of the4 way first - what a pain in the arse!


Welcome to the site.  Bringing saws inside is what I used to do too. 

I dont  anything on the 180 to help, good luck.

A common fault with the Stihl 017 and 018 is low or no oil getting through to the bar and chain. It is not always the pump but a series of other factors. The video takes you through the options.
