Hi guys.
I'm the one in the above video chopping trees with the 241 :) My fiancee was on the camera.
Great little saw and for those that don't know only released to the European and Australian markets. There is some petitioning going on with Stihl USA's Facebook page apparently to get it imported there by a number of american saw fans.
It is a German made Pro grade saw. Mine was purchased via the UK prior to it being released in Australia. It was also nearly half the price out of the UK compared to buying it in Australia. Out here the RRP is around USD$1400!!!
It is also equipped with the M-Tronic management system like it's bigger brother the 441C-M. This system is awesome and to hear a 42.7cc saw load up and keep cutting like a mini Husky 3120 instead of stalling out is unbelievable. The way the management adjusts itself depending on the load and conditions is unreal.
The filter is excellent and the same as the MS261 but it is a completely different saw. I personally rate it as a far better saw than the 261 - the 261 has a number of worthy competitors in it's class like the Dolmar 5105 and the Husky 346XP. I prefer both the Husky and Dolmar over the 261. I sold my MS261 as I found it quite a boring saw despite being a very good saw. It's throttle response was pathetic whereas the 241 has a lot of character. An MS261 with the M-Tronic management would be a weapon for sure :)
Anyway, if anybody wants more input on this saw chime in :D
Regards,
Matt

Some issues with the 241 Mtronic showing up

Quote from: bigtreeguy
Recently bought a second hand MS241 from a chap who had done a chainsaw course to start a business but then decided it wasn't for him.

Saw is now out of warranty but has only probably done around 5 hours work and seems to be playing up with Mtronic carb. I've checked most things flywheel to coil gap, calibrated computer by running on choke for 60 seconds then switching off, pulled wires apart checking connections ok carb stripped (clean as a new pin). But I still seem to be getting problems.

Problem is, it will start and tick over fine but when go into a cut sometimes not everytime it falters runs very rough and won't rev usually smells quite petroly as though its choking itself. Have to eventually let off throttle and go again and usually works fine, just flustrating from a new saw.

Just wondered if anyone else had one and experiencing same issues? Also is it worth while contacting stihl although out of warranty with it being a new model saw is it worth trying them if only as feedback that its not very good?

Interesting comments on the 241. If you run them hard you'll generally find the computer will adapt in about 5 minutes (or less) and then they'll be fine for the rest of the day. I know a few guys with the 241 and when you first start it you are actually quite disappointed. After 1/2 a tank when it wakes itself up you remember why you loved it so much :)
As far as M-Tronic goes I have heard of a 441CM that recently needed a carb replaced. Approximately USD$280 but sourced from an Australian dealer.

Having second thoughts on a MS241 CM after playing with a MS441 CM. Did not like the M-tronics at all. Husky Rev-Boost is looking better all the time.

Although I've never run an AT Husky with Rev Boost they certainly look the goods. The 241C is a great little saw compared to any current competition on the market that I've used but the only hesitation I have on any of the newer strato Stihls is their lack of throttle response, M-Tronic or not. When felling smaller Casuarinas with my 241 I have noticed in some of my videos that I am constantly blipping the throttle subconciously between cuts to keep it in it's favourite rev range.
Regardless it is an awesome little saw but can't wait to have a go on a 550XP or 543XP Husky. The filtration on the 241 though looks to be better than the current crop of Huskies which they need to fix ASAP. In Australia where we deal with so much dust the Stihl HD2 filtration is starting to show major benefits despite me being a big Husky fan. The only other filter I've seen that can match the HD2 is the Dolmar HD setup on my ported 7900's.
