Redneck Fix for Stihl fuel line
« on: September 08, 2011, 07:31:37 pm »
When it is after hours and you cant wait on the mail order.  This will work for a stihl fuel line fix on many of their saw models.

Just a quick fix I did for a guy the other day to get him back to the firewood pile in a hurry.

Come to me and says my 250 wont stay running. Pop the air filter cover, gas it up and look it over. See hairline cracks in fuel line and seepage with crack near grommet area.
So I pull the fuel line. Cut both ends off and run tygon fuel line through the grommet part that seals the tank section. Put a different fuel filter on that is smaller attachment size into line since it isnt that big molded stihl oem end.  Attach back to carb and fire it up and all is up and running again.  No leaks after upside down and side to side.

Here is a pic of a 034 I did today to bypass stihl molded fuel line and fuel filters.  Here is how easy. Just pull old line out, clip both ends off by molded tank area, run new line through molded part that seals tank area. Install new filter, attach to carb and fixed for less then a dollar of fuel line and now you can use husky, poulan or any normal fuel filter IMO.

This is awesome! Just wish i would have found it sooner. The poulan 8500 I just traded for happened because Of some work he needed done on an 028 woodboss. Put new fuel line and filter impulse and the whole works.

Do you use the same technique for the impulse line?

I used to do the same thing before i started stocking a/m fuel lines also have used plain rubber grommets for wire to run the line through using them you could usually keep the larger fuel line

That is pretty slick. I am just throwing this out there as well, the tank vent nipples on the 1123 series stihls saw , if you break of the nipple you can drill out the hole and insert a grommet and hose with vent at the top of the hose. I think I use a one from and older style echo string trimmer, works well and beats buying the engine housing.
FEAR NO TREE. FEAR GOD.

I just rednecked the ms250 fuel line so it would never have to be held hostage again for fuel line or filters by stihl.

The 1 piece on right isnt the 250 fuel  line piece but is one thrown in to show how to clip both ends.

Do you leave the line length that long from the grommet to the filter?
