I have seen 20% faster cuts by doing a 30 min muffler mod on these and carb retune afterwords.  As much as 23% on one.

Few threads here on 290 310 390 029 039 showing the muffler mod and explaining it too.

 If you live close by I would do it for you for  a few cold ones while we talk and I do the muffler mod and carb retune.

You running 325 or 3/8?  That saw likes 325 IMO.  I've had one.

Also if cutting clean firewood try running stihl RSC yellow labeled chain instead of that green labeled safety semi chisel chain like RM2 RM3.
