This caught me off guard. The Stihl 440 is back in the spring.

I didn't believe this at all when I first heard it, but it's sounding like it might actually happen.  Simply amazing after such a long hiatous.

I didnt catch a price?

So how does a stock 440 044 70.7cc match up to a 70.7cc 372 stock?  Good and bads of each for you guys that have ran them stock. What type of AV does the 440 have?

The 440 is built just like the 460 and 660, with rubber AV mounts and the HD air filter.  I personally love the saw.  The 372 may be a more refined saw, but I still prefer the 440 for some reason.  I just like the way it feels and handles.  I modded the muffler on mine before ever putting it in wood, so that's the closest I've come to running them stock.  I was very impressed with it.

I still have a hard time believing it's coming back, but than again Husky did it with the 372. Stock they run well and feel really light in the hands, I prefer the 372 but I'd be just as happy with a 440.

Never ran a 440. Have always wondered about them though.

I think I am going to have enough 372's to last me forever right now. Some I made into 362xp and 365 specials to test with. But I have 70.7cc top ends to put in their place and 76cc AFM tops on hand too.

They never really actually quit making either them or what it replaced, the 038 Mag .They just didn't sell them in North America .

The 44 was a good saw but so was the 038 Mag .Coinsidently though in my back driveway as I type sets a 62 foot Hi-Ranger and in one of the tool boxes resides a 441 which replaced an 044 or 440 whichever .The owner of same prefers it to the former .
