I finally got a 440! i am very excited about getting this one running. It has a scored piston and the rings are stuck.

Ok. I woods ported my 440 and it runs very well. There was much material to be taken off the ports. I have run into one problem though. When I adjust the carb to 4 stroke at WOT. I start to cut and seems its not getting enough fuel. it still screams, but too lean for work. When i richen it way up, it kinda loads up but will clean up in the cut again. ???The fuel filter is clean so its not that. Some people put larger carbs on there ported saws. I was wondering if that was the problem? I will put a vid on youtube later. Any ideas?

WAG = Have you checked tank vent.  New carb kit, checked fulcrum height.

My guess either the fuel lever shut off  is set too low or the diaphragm has lost some of it's elasticity .That thing has enough carb you won't "over run it "

I did clean the carb, adjusted the fulcrom height to allow more gas in. But did not check the vent.

Let me add a thought .I've got several souped up saws and at times they can be real fuss budgets .Two in praticular ,038 Mag ,Ms 200T at certain times only takes just a teeny little bit on the high speed between running good and running great .

You never know ,they have a mind of thier own at times .

I just caught that part about cleaning the carb .Been down that road and sometimes you win ,sometimes not .More times than not if the saw has sat for a while not running you'd just as well rebuild the carb .

I think i have it running good now. Just like Al said, the carb adjustments are very touchy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5u6m23Kl-Gs
