On a side note. I had some issues with this saw. The piston was ok to reuse but i had to take it out to shine it up with emery cloth. On installation, I let one of those cir-clips get away from me. Couldn't find it, so i had another laying around and used that one. I put it all back together, started it up. I probably got one blip off and she locked up. >:( I tore it back down and i found the missing cir-clip. wedged between the piston and lower part of the cylinder. I trashed the piston getting it back out but the cylinder was ok because the gouge was below the intake port. I just thought i would pass that along. Now i will be checking the crankcase before i put the cylinder back on.  :-[

Life is a learning experiance . It's not a bad idea to stuff the cranckcase full of clean rags when doing any work on the piston .

I have lost a few clips but as luck would have it never left one inside the saw .Had to fish a few out though before the rag deal dawned on me .

I am still having lean issues. A guy on another site was having the same problem. Runs fine at first then leans out after long cuts. (Still waiting on carb kit, fuel line,and filter from dealer BTW.) So he tore the carb down and the inlet screen was semi plugged with what it looks like that foam they put inside aftermarket fuel filters. So i tore my carb apart again and found my screen semi plugged also. and i also have a after market filter with the foam inside. I started the saw earlier today and couldn't blip it because it was so lean. after i cleaned the carb and put an OEM filter back in it and started it tonight, it seems to have plenty of fuel.

It might sound hard to believe but the in tank filter will indeed let fine particles of deteriated fuel lines ,tiny slivers of wood chips etc pass through them .These will get caught on the carb screen . The screen is the last line of defense to prevent this stuff from plugging the carb .

On that I have a 2100 Husky that must have set in an old barn for years on some island off the coast of Washington state where the fuel lines went to mush . After pressure washing the tank,new line filter etc it continued to plug the screen for months until it finally cleared itself .What a pain in the buttocks that is . >:(

Dont know if anyone else does this. But on the saws that I ran the stihl filters on like racesaws. I removed the inner sponge thing inside the filters. 

Dont know if I had got to all the ones I moved on but something to think about. Dont know if it helped or not, but dont see how it could hurt removing it.

Any reason why not to remove it?

I know your thinking behind this one, I've tried it and found no difference. Heck my 3120 racesaw run a stock husky fuel filter and she guzzles fuel.
Maybe at a certain point say on an alky saw where volume of fuel is so much greater than on a gas saw it would be a necessity.
But I'll take all the protection I can get and keep the inner filter material in.
