So if this is stratified scavenging, were is the fresh air coming in?
I see no way for air coming in unless it go thru carb??
Magnus the fresh air comes in through the exhaust port when the piston is TDC. Look at the cutout on the base of the exhaust side of the piston.

Well I guess that settles that  :-*
Not having the 461 in front of me to examine, I just had photos to go by...............I took for granted Magnus was onto something ::)

I can not see anything different than a conventional engine other than bracket.

The partly burnt fumes going back is nothing new, it is in the principle of the engine.
The thing that stato and X-torq etc do is let fresh air out in muffler last so that is sucked back in.

From the pic's, this engine is a normal engine as far as piston and transfers go.
Front transfers is not new, just disregarded on saws as the distance and time it takes for the fumes to travel was considered too long.
To shorten it it required higher pressures and faster flows... Used on other two strokes, but never worked well in saws due to temps and fuels...

FWIW if you look at Forestry Forum Joe from India had  some pictures that were a little clearer and some other items shown .It became a lot more clear to me after I saw those pics .

Once you see them it should clear a lot of things up or at least it did for me .

Old Iron Logging.

Please explain to me how it works technically. Not the marketing/sales talk, I heard that already...

I looked up these animations, thought it could be fun for some to see..

Intake port on a two stroke can be regulated by a valve and be located pretty much any were bellow exhaust port.
On most saws the valve is the piston and its skirt that determine when it is open or not.
Same with the exhaust port.
Fuel air mix is let in crank case under piston, flushed up thru trancefers above piston and ignited. As they expand piston go down creating the power.
How the transfers are formed and located is not very important really. They serve same purpose regardless.
