Stihl museum pics
« on: November 17, 2013, 09:18:11 pm »
OK, so I have not been very active on this site.  Kevin dropped me a line recently, and re-invited me to participate a little more.  I took a bunch of pics in VA Beach two weeks ago, and now I'll post them up here.

This is actually a Stihl product.  It has a two cylinder diesel engine that they also produced as an industrial powerplant.  Apparently A.Stihl really loved these tractors.  He eventually conceded to stop selling them though, as they were costing money rather than making it.

Stihl branded lawn mower.  JLO engine on this one.  The plastic block is a functional demonstrator of the 4-mix engine.

Several different uses for the venerable 08 power head.  The one on the floor is a water pump.  They said the outboard motor was not actually a Stihl product, but they thought it was a good addition to the museum

One of the first handheld leaf blower prototypes.  Again, 08 engine.

I'll bet they liked the shirt!!!!

Yeah, Mr. Franzen paid a visit to Louisville right after setting up his sharpener for Stihl there, he was ecstatic!!

If they did like the shirt, nobody mentioned it.  I doubt they are much into fashion there.

I was impressed with the mechanics of the Franzen, but the grind quality was not what I thought it might be for a $20k grinder.  That thing does not take small bites of the cutter, it just plows through in one pass.  The right cutters had more of a burr than I would ever allow on on of my chains from the 511.  That particular Franzen is said to be a few years old. Maybe the newer ones grind with a little more finesse?

This is an ignition tester we fooled with in class.  It will function test any module, and you can check the advance also.  VERY cool.  This is s custom one-off unit.

This is a fully functional TS-500i fuel injected cutoff saw.  They took it apart, so we can see how it works.  You can actually start and run it just like this.
