Swap anyone? 084 crankshaft for 088
« on: October 03, 2013, 09:05:04 pm »
G'day everyone!

Just to feed my hobby, I'm looking for a crankshaft in good condition to suit a Stihl 088.

What I have to offer is the same for a Stihl 084 as a straight swap. I have managed to aquire 2 of these (084) from seized saws but only one 088 seized, with an obviously cooked engine (crank on the right in last pic)

As most of you would know the 084 crank will fit in the 088 but the flywheel side taper etc is shorter and thinner, thus no good!

If anyone out there would be keen please let me know via PM here!

Cheers!

if the taper is the only difference can you use the 084 crank in the 088 and just run the 084 flywheel???????

I was thinking the same thing but no luck, the shaft on that side is also shorter, not much but shorter and I could use the 084 flywheel, but then I found out the pull start sat too proud to engage on the other side. I guess I could see if the pull start of the 084 would work?

I am also entirely unsure if the 084 flywheel will work with the coil on the 088, would you know? Any knowledge is appreciated!

Cheers!
