Trying to get smart on my Stihl

After going through my 026 and giving it a tune up, I feel much more in touch with my Stihl. I would like some schooling on chains and bars.  I've always run Stihl roller tip bars and whatever chain my dealer handed me.  But I know nothin' about either except they wear out fast when abused.  Is there a post or link on the variety of chains out there and what conditions you would use one over another?

Also, what are the weak points (in general) of Stihl saws?  How does Stihl stack up against the rest of the industry?   My local dealer is a Stihl "Elite" dealer but his repair shop is a place I'd rather not take my saw to.  I've seen too many Neanderthal work practices from his techs.   The shop doesn't strike me as what I should expect from a "Elite" dealership.  But then again it's probably all about the sales.

Very few dealers are not about the money, after all that is why they are in business. Most all brands available in the US or elsewhere are fine saws for their intended purpose. What makes the difference in your long-term satisfaction with your purchase is knowing your needs near-term and foreseeable future before purchasing a saw. A Stihl 880 or Husqvarna 3120XP saw would be a poor choice for most casual users! Proper care of your saw is also key to longevity, lets face it a chainsaw is a high-use, high-stress tool, without proper care it WILL fail.
