Want to put in a MS390 Short Block in a MS290

Does Stihl make a MS390 short block and what would I need change it to the MS390. If so what does Stihl get for a short block

If the crank and engine pan are good in your 290 than all you would need is the 390 piston and cylinder. Mako is a good aftermarket piston and cylinder for the 1127 series saw.

Its just a plug and play situation. The MS390 cylinder is just like the MS290 on the outside as far as everything being in the same place.

This is a very common swap.

Ok, Thanks guys. Should I install new bearing too if so what one is the ones that does not have the platic roller cage. Please let me know part numbers too.

The bearings are 6203 both pto and fly side are the same.

What Stihl calls the "pan" and us normal folk call the bearing cap will be distorted. I put some 320 wet or dry sand paper on a sheet of glass and level the surface of both the bearing cap and the cylinder before putting on a thin coat of Dirko and assembly.

I will do that 660. I just more power. Thanks for the part numbers. I want to make sure. The Stihl dealer said $225 p&c for the MS390. I am finally come to the end to of my projects. :'(
