Carb Cleaner Spray
« on: October 19, 2013, 04:09:36 pm »
Anybody on here uses the Champion carb cleaner thats in the Oregon catalog? How well does it clean carbs? I found the berryman B12 carb spray works. The Golden Eagle in the Stens Catalog is works even better.

Careful.  B12 and so on will melt the check valves in the older zama for sure and some of the walbro's.  Try spray brake clean or pine sol in your ultrasonic.

Are you referring to 2 or 4 cycle carbs when you say B12 will melt the check valves? Never heard using brake cleaner or pine sol in a ultrasonic cleaner.  I have the heated HF ultrasonic cleaner and I use the design technology solution with it. I use more carb cleaner spray on 4 cycle carbs more than anything.

I never tried the super tech carb cleaner spray at walmart. I used the gumout before but stopped because it wasnt starting badly gummed up 4 cycle carbs like the B12 and Golden Eagle will.

I try and not have to fix  4 stroke mower carbs. I just put the older ones on in place of the new plastic ones I have had trouble with.

I've had to work on both the diaphragm pump and the float type B&S carbs. I am familiar with them and their problems but don't use any B-12. I get the parts at Glenns.

I rebuild all my carbs unless I can clean it by just taking the bowl off. Sometimes its a chore trying to clean those float type 4 cycle carbs on mowers.

I've been lucky to only have trash in the bowls. The fuel pickup is in the very bottom of the bowl and any trash plugs up the fuel inlet.

NON- CHLORINATED brake clean ;)
if you can't see it clearly stating that it's NON-CHLORINATED on the label. it probably isn't and should be left on the shelf.
when ever brake cleaner is mentioned, I have to stress it's NON-CHLORINATED :) I can't count how many people I've talked to that's ruined something with the chlorinated stuff.
when I grow up, i wanna be an adult.
