 Those were "pull dowels " which have a thread in them for extraction from a blind hole .They were only ones I could find at the time .

A lot of this home grown stuff is experimentation .Usually it works after a few minor adjustments . ;)

Problem with a screw on clutch is they get tight as a mouses ear .What ever you use often times has to be able to with stand some impact because it often takes a mighty wack with a hammer to get it broke loose .

You can take a chance and thump them on the clutch spinder with a brass rod and a ball peen but you take the change of doing harm to the crank shaft stub end . Not good .
