Need a metal fabricator
« on: December 02, 2014, 12:57:50 pm »
Hi guys,
Not sure if anyone can help me, but here goes.
I need a piece of metal fabricated for an old, old door lock
It is an 1880 Corbin rim lock that is on my side door.
The photos will show you what I need.
It is a "Y" or yoke metal piece that is broken.

If you know of a machine shop in the NW Ohio
or if anybody that has a small machine shop that will duplicate this piece for me
I can mail you the part to duplicate.

Chuck

Wow nice work of art.  How old do you reckon that is?     Never mind read it again 1880    :-[

I just had newer lock mechanism wear out after only 15 years.

I would think with a little bit of time you could recreate that with a 4.5" angle grinder, a drill and a vise.

If you want to ship the lock I can hack something out with my mill.

Brazing together would be an option?

It appears to be cast iron .Nickle would hold it probably better than brass .Brass would work too for that matter .

Looks like someone already used Nirod on the other side?

We'll see what it's like when it gets here.  If I can weld it I will, if not I'll cut a new one out of 1020 cold roll.
