Well, you got the job done.

I realize it was a customer item and and you have to draw the line somewhere but you certainly went above and beyond basic functionality.

Not really a customer.   I have never charged for any of the chainsaw welding jobs I have done so far.   
Let's just say I like taking something broken and making it functional again.   I get some satisfaction in that.
All of the jobs so far have come from guys on the different forums and have been done free of charge and they just pay for shipping.
