Last weekend
« on: November 24, 2015, 10:35:59 pm »

Milled about 1285boardfeet of Southern Red Oak{quartersawn} for a customer on Friday in just under 5.5hrs(personal best).  Didn't bother taking photo's of the stuff, but the 'rays' in the quartersawn(also known as medullary rays) were amazing!  The customer is currently running around the country side trying to find some more logs....

The above photo shows Saturdays fun!  My 'stash'!!
These are the logs I save from the chipper, and I cut them to mostly 8/4thickness....it's easier to make a thick piece thinner then to make a thin piece thicker.

But I often find myself cutting 3/4thickness for pen blanks, 1/4thickness for my wife to use on the scroll saw, and then the 8/4thickness just get chopped into game call blanks(mostly for duck calls).
There are five different species of timber, including: Eastern Red Cedar, Eastern Red Bud, White Oak{inclusion-very sweet grain patterns}, Persian Silktree, and some Black Cherry.....everything a going website needs to have in stock!  There was about 205boardfeet estimated by the 'app' I use, but the thinner kerf of the WoodMizer yielded about 255boardfeet....I thought I was getting a better yield but didn't have access after I completed a 'job' to measure everything.

I'll try to add more as I get a chance....this is a fun 'hobby', that allows me to fire up chainsaws!

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that anymore.  I have processed it into smaller pieces and stickered it for air drying....

This is the stuff I hunt for.

Pretty cool stuff.   I can see that would be a pretty neat hobby.
