Red Oak shelves
« on: November 03, 2017, 09:56:43 pm »
I cut some nice 1x14" oak boards and made some fairly nice shelves for my saws. After about two weeks the bottoms and where paint is missing is white with corrosion, tannic acid I was told. Guess I should've used the big pine boards I had cut, just wasn't thinking. Sometimes I think I'm eat up with the dumba**

late to the party /I used some red oak ,air dried for about 8 years for shelves above my lathes .Talk about heavy .I could stack engine blocks on that stuff I do believe .Because they are in a machine shop I saw no reason to get fancy with paint or sealant .
In my pile of rough sawn hardwood I have some 16  foot by 1 by 12  red oak planks .I can't hardly lift the things .
