Aftermarket Carbs

zama hd  clone?

Ordered a couple Zama 044-046 carbs off Ebay for $19 ea.  Was expecting Zama C3M type carbs but they were HD 16-17 clones.  Pulled them apart this evening and to my surprise the fit and finish was impeccable.

Anyone know the story on these carbs? Zama embossed cover and says HD on side of carb body.

cut and paste from my post in another forum, looks like they are offering them for sale to others as well now
Dave

ok here is what happened
I have a couple saw projects that are going to builders shortly.
I asked both guys what carb they wanted and both said the HD16 Walbro.
The aftermarket 044/440 carbs are all from Hunai and Zama factories in China.
Sent my guy a NOS HD16 from the pre-limiter era.
They measured the jets etc and built a modern clone with vintage sized internals and no limiters.
Just a matter of assembling the right parts apparently.
I am sending OEM NOS HD16s to the builders with the clones as well.

I have heard good things about the aftermarket carbs for the trimmers etc.

I was wondering if anyone has tried the aftermarket carb for the tilley HS for 268 272 61 etc?

Feedback on chainsaw aftermarket carb also?

I have a WT copy and a HDA copy on my two Chinese clones, and they have worked perfectly - with one exception:  the check valve failed on the WT copy in the Earthquake.  Then again that's what happened on almost every ZAMA C1Q I've had.   I was able to fix it by punching out a thin rubber disk from an old emissions device.  The check valve was a different size than a real Walbro, and the carb had a fixed H jet in addition to the needle.  The casting quality was better than some Walbros I have, and worse than other, but perfectly acceptable.  For a time I had swapped the shafts from the Chinese copy into a real Walbro, but it didn't work any better so I put it back.

The HDA copy on my G621 clone has been flawless.

Good deal.

Dave at CCC said he was going to send me a HS for 268 272 to check out and put on a saw that will be coming back in with carb issues. Prices are right on them for sure $12.50.  8)

I was looking for feedback on the HS aftermarket carb but havent found any yet.  @DefinitiveDave  you have any feedback on the HS carbs?

So you are a source for HD-12 clones? I took a sampling of Husqvarna 372 AM carbs a while back from a variety of sources. None were "clones" all had more obstructions there for less x-sectional area.... be interested if that has changed.
