There are different sizes.  The hand lines, held by the firefighters, are the smallest.  The stuff that runs from the hydrant to the pumper can be 2 to 4inches in diameter.

4 inches in diameter can be about 6 inches when laid flat; 3 inch diameter can be 4-1/2 inches flat - depends how thick the jacket is.

The big suction hose from the hydrant to the pumper would be too heavy and stiff. It will not collapse with the pumper sucking on it.

We have pressurized hydrants around here and they usually use flat hoses.  I'm guessing that the suction hose would be used for drawing from a lake, or holding pool, etc.?

If you look on line, they show flat fire hose up to 6 inches in diameter.  If you are scrounging, I guess it depends on what your local FD has.

Fire pumper trucks are required to carry a hard suction hose according to the NFPA in the USA.

I'm sure we can find stuff to stash in sections of that hose as well!

Looks like there is a bunch of used fire hose on eBay, if you can't find some locally.  10 and 25 foot sections.  Going for a couple of bucks a foot, including shipping.

If you have a couple of saws, or can split it with a buddy, could be an OK deal.
