If you are working on the lesser models, there's just not much money there to begin with. Any repair at all and it is cheaper to buy a new lesser model.

Also to repair (like rings or piston) on a Homelite weed whacker has just as much costs for parts and labor as on a Stihl or Echo.

For example, the neighbor straight gassed his newer style Homelite. He only paid $25 for it at a garage sale. He's better off to find another weed whacker at a garage sale.

just a cheap weedeater or ryobi needs gas lines and carb kit is it better to advise customer to get a new one or charge him the repair if its showing good compression and in good shape.

The majority this is all they need is fuel line and filters. Repairs would be cost effective in this case.

I do guys cheap weedeaters all the time. carb kits, fuel lines, filters.  If needing rebuilds p+c etc  I tell  them most times it's cheaper to buy another.

Same on the cheap leaf blowers and the cheap limbing saws on weedeater handles.  $169 under ones. I dont waste folks money with rebuilds and tell them up front. Just tuning etc.

You'll just have to feel it out? Try $50 and see what happens?

I think the name brand shops are $65-$75 and more a hour. I realize they have overhead etc.

I have  been charging $20 a hour. Because I do it as a side hobby and dont count on it. Now if I was having to depend on it for a living I would be closer to $40 a hour.  Owning my own place etc with not having pay going out.

Only part that gets me a little in the pocket is fronting all the cash to buy the stuff for the rebuilds etc. I havent figured out how to better do that. But cant see folks paying anything before the items is ready to go.
