Wards 5.0 TMC 24040 A
« on: May 07, 2014, 09:40:15 am »
This one followed me home last week. I emptied the gas tank of some old gas and put in some fresh. Pulled the spark plug and put some fresh gas down the hole, put the plug back in and pulled a few times. I had a large cloud of smoke but it at least ran. Sharpened the chain a little (might be original) and after 2 pulls it starts up so over to the 12 poplar tree for a test cut.  With 5.0 cubes the tree did not stand a chance, this old saw runs very strong.  Is this one made by Remington??

Sure looks like one, maybe a PL-5.

That is a really nice looking old saw. Bet it will clean up very well. Great find and 5 cubes to boot!

I got the saw and a 5 hp B & S engine for $26.00.  ;D  I hope to try it on some oak and maple today.

Today I went to the woods and ran this 5.0 for a bit.  Made a VERY large cloud of smoke so I'm guessing it's sucking oil into the combustion chamber some how.  It ran really good until I could not stand the smoke anymore.  Looks like it will be a rafter hanger queen for a while.

Remington PL or SL-55, 82cc.
The auto oiler check valve duckbill has dissolved and turned to mush.  Easy fix.

Better yet, send it to me for proper disposal.

Remove the recoil cover and shoot a picture of the oil lines/ valve so I can see which setup you have.  One has an external line with 90 deg at the oil tank the other is in the wall between the crank case and oil tank.

Here you go.

The auto oiler check is inside the 90 degree fitting closest to the flywheel.  There is no known fix for it.

However, the check from a Lombard AL42, AP42 or Comango can be repaired and used in place of the Remy part.  Use a Poulan/Husqvarna duckbill.
