Dolmar 6000i
« on: May 05, 2012, 09:58:02 pm »
This is my 1997 Dolmar 6000i. I bought it used from the local dealer in April 2011. I have not done anything to it but install the outer spike. This one has the original 20" bar and a newer Stihl RSC chain.

It has the Tillotson carburetor with no choke but has a orifice valve that opens with what would be the choke lever. This valve lets the carburetor pump squirt fuel directly into the venturi. The chainsaw will normally start cold with the choke on. You can shut the choke off after the chainsaw starts.

This chainsaw looks a lot like the Dolmar 116/120 chainsaws which preceded it. It was the predecessor to the Dolmar 6400. The 6000i had a sibling in the Dolmar 6800i.

This particular one has heated handles with a toggle switch just under the starter handle.

It is a real sweetheart to use. A little on the heavy side with the handle heating apparatus but excellent power for a 60cc chainsaw. This example was a one owner trade in on a new 6400 and the guy was just a casual firewood cutter. The 6000i has few scratches or dings and leaks little bar oil.

The listed weight for the non heated version is 14.75 lbs power head only. Bore and stroke is 46mm X 36mm and the 6800 is 49mm X 36mm. with free running rpm at 13000.

I loved running this 6000i

The heated handles switch is 2nd pic above gas cap.  Heated handles still work.

They are definitely a great saw!
The 6000 and 6800 are both very under-rated!

Mine was made in 1997 but I have the idea that the 1st owner didn't purchase it until a couple years later.

It also sat as a consignment at the Dolmar dealer almost 2 years before I bought it in 2010.

The dealer told me that the owner worked as a track man for the railroad. It looked like the owner had cut a lot of railroad cross ties with it? There were creosote stains all over it when I bought it. It came with a couple creosoted Stihl chains one of which I squared and gave to you.

I think you gave me that 1 chain that was all blackened. It cleaned up when we were doing testing that day.  Only 1, and dont recall if you left it here or not.

The cutters were real short on it. I don't have it. I was surprised how clean it was after only a few cuts. The creosote came right off.
