Sad Carb Order Story
« on: May 18, 2015, 02:24:27 pm »
I worked on this guy's old Dolmar over the winter.  It had a Tillotson HK-21C carb in it.  The carb gave me fits.  I eventually got things running, but it wasn't up to my standards.  This guy is an old friend.  So, I sent it out the door and ordered a spare carb.  I told him if it got to where he couldn't stand it, bring it back and I'd drop that new carb in.  Email comes in about 2-weeks later: Back-ordered.,.we'll have it in a couple of weeks.  Back and forth this goes from January until today: Item is discontinued.  We can't get you a replacement.  But we can hook you up with a Walbro HDA-22 at a discount price of $127.50.  It goes without saying I didn't bite on that hook.

I don't understand why a company would operate like that.

I won't name the company in here, but will provide in a pm.

In the meantime if you run into one of these old HK-21C carbs, let me know, please.  Thanks.

I believe that's the same carb as the Bing with a funky plastic body that holds the metering needle assembly?  Might be better served buying a used HDA (+carb kit) that crosses over and rebuild...

just out of curiosity what is the model of the saw? i am curious to see what comes up through dolmar for a carb. The HK-21C immediately comes up as NLA through my distributor so i dont understand why they would even take your money on that one

Tillotson has been notably unreliable of late, my former employer finally dropped the line as we could never count on orders being met. We experienced the same problem, months after an order was placed we were finally notified the product was no longer available.

It was a Dolmar 112.  And the leaking plastic piece holding the metering valve fits the symptoms.

Thanks for all the info.

There's an old Walbro HDA-23 from a Dolmar 116 up on ebay at a decent price.  Should be able to convert it over or no?

Right off the bat I notice the 23 is smaller 13.49mm Venturi compared to the 22     16.66mm Venturi

The IPL shows the HDA 22 being $127 though, like you were told.  http://wem.walbro.com/walbro/product2.asp?Series=HDA&partnum=HDA-22-1

HDA 23 IPL http://wem.walbro.com/walbro/product2.asp?Series=HDA&partnum=HDA-23-1
