man am i dumb, changed default needlevalve settings cs-370
« on: October 01, 2012, 12:59:10 pm »
Saw had set up for a year, so i did the deal, just cleaned it, but just had to remove the little red plugs and remove the needle valves to clean them.  Big mistake. Saw has run like a charm for like 8 years.  Now starts, but i cannot get a low idle, saw runs so fast it starts running blade even with clutch lock disingaged.  (which i also disassembled, guarantee that spring is good).

okay, got tired of removing carb. took off plugs to needle valves and can adjust them from outside case. i enlarged the hole so i can aim at the two needlevalves.

enough whining.

looking at the left side of the saw, which is high speed and which is idle needle valve?  front is ?

and here is the real trick, how many turns from closed should these needles be opened?

L will be closest to cylinder. H is furthest away back toward you.   I like to start both from lightly seated to 1 to 1.5 turns out each.

I idle screw  I've noticed on echos can be in different areas.   Looks like I screw is below or above your H L on this one on carb.

I'll find a IPL  and post too.

You have to use your serial number to get the exact IPL. I just used 1st one on list.

thanks for the link.

having a darn hard time finding that darn serial number.. getting blind, but i realize that it is probabluy the most important info i can find.

i started there yesterday, 1.5 on both, darn thing just starts running away from me... high rpm.
any reason it is taking off?  did i not set carb tight enough, grabing air and running lean?  running so fast it spins chain without spring on clutch.

idle adjustment screw is above i beleive... kinda funny, just a small bevel on end of straight shaft that meets the throttle lever... is that right?

On the Echo CS370-- 400 start at 4-1/2 turns open on both then back in untill they run a cut the best, they must use fine thread on those screws or a finer tip on them..   Steve

One of those eh.   ;)   Glad you knew about that.  8)

My redmax 5000 is that way and I thought wth is up with my regular settings.   Then I talk to others that said the same thing. So I was relived to know that and I wasnt going to have to search for a air leak.
