Never seen a Homelite page so quiet...
« on: January 09, 2013, 05:42:34 pm »
Just wanted to know what people on here had in their Homelite arsenal. I have been collecting for quite some time now and have found myself with more of these than any other saw. I do not know if it because there are more of these around or that because I have been obsessed with them ever since I picked up a Super EZ for the first time (first saw I ever owned and ran). What do you all think about the good Homelite's?

I haven't messed with Homelites very much.  All of the three I had went to AS members.

Craftsman 4.5 (Homelite 450).  I bought it on ebay thinking that it was a rebadged Echo.  Cleaned it up, tried to get it running, but the recoil was jerky, tried several times to remove my arm.  I had too many other project saws (I'm a hoarder), ended up making a trade with a saw builder.

Homelite Super II.  Picked it up for $10.00 at a flea market,  never messed with it.  Sent it to someone for the cost of shipping; I kept the b&c to "cover" my $10.00 expenditure ::).

Homelite C-72.  Bought it off Craigs List,  a C-72 & a Skil 1616 for $20.00 total.  Never messed with it other than cleaning it,  sent it to someone for the cost of shipping.
I'm a chainsaw hoarder & tinkerer.  The brand isn't usually important,  if the price is right I'll probably buy it.

It's one of those regional things .Years ago it was just what was popular back in the day is what you find at auctions flea markets etc .Around here the most you'll find of old ones are McCullochs .In years to come that will be Stihl .

I've got 3 360's, a CS 40, a 923, a 550, and a little one that I can't remember what the numbers are. Waiting on a Flea bay intake boot and a carb kit for one of the 360"s.
Had a 1050 Automatic long enough to clean the 12 year old gunk out of the carb and get it running like a top only to find out that my BIL wanted his deceased dads saw back. :(  Don't blame him a bit though. I've got 3 of the last 4 saws my dad has owned. All three Mac's. 610, 10-10 Auto, and a mini 35(I think). Will never sell them. :)

I think Homelite .McCulloch and Harley-Davidson for that matter suffered from a very bad board of directors during the 80's who did little for improvements and everything to line their pockets .For that matter a majorty of other businesses followed suit  .Thus we have what we have today .

While the captains of industry were asleep at the switch somebody stole the train .Names such as Honda ,Toyota ,Stihl .Husqvarna and a thousand others would still be small time players had the powers that were not had their heads squarely implanted in the cheeks of their buttocks .
