Ok it gets curiouser and curiouser. Took the plug out and it smelled of fuel. Grounded the plug and saw spark. Put new plug in and no joy. Put old plug back. Had some mix ready to pour in the carb but thought I'd pull the rope once again first. The dam thing started right up.
I'm thinking maybe the lead from the coil to the plug may have issues or the connection between the plug and the wire may have corroded. Gonna replace the wire and totally clean up the connector before reinstalling. Will also use a small amount of dielectric grease. For now it runs. Go figure.
Am I the only one that has random, off the wall, issues with my saws? Maybe having so many keeps them from getting the proper amount of exercise. May need to sell some. Just saying
